First a bit of context of various statements made by Preity regarding her FIR against Ness Wadia: may not be super wealthy and powerful but I have truth by my side and I’ve worked very hard all my life and tried to earn respect for myself as a self made professional. … It saddens me that no one at work or around ever stood up for me in the past when I was abused and insulted publicly. This time I was left with no option but to take this stern step as this incident happened in front of way too many people. Sometimes we are so ashamed and humiliated that we fool ourselves to believe that no one saw what happened . Everyone always looks away as if they don't exist or then we don’t exist. People are embarrassed just enough to look away, but not too embarrassed to intervene. … I … [Read more...] about 6 (not 10) excuses we wouldn’t want to hear from Preity Zinta
Men’s vote powered Modi led BJP’s victory, but do men know it?
In my earlier article just around the time polling for 2014 Lok Sabha elections went underway, I had highlighted the power of 51% men’s vote, and rebutted the points raised by the Power of 49 women’s vote campaign. I had suggested that most of the points raised are either to do with feminist inspired rhetoric about violence against women etc; or to do with improving infrastructure and such issues, which benefit whole of society and have nothing to do with women as a separate group. If a corporate house wants to sell more tea in name of empowering women, they have all the rights to do so but creating false issues is not the way to do it. Now that the elections are done, I was intrigued by catching some glimpses on TV and newspaper about large percentage difference in support for Modi … [Read more...] about Men’s vote powered Modi led BJP’s victory, but do men know it?
How to safeguard from and punish a false rape complainant
In last few months I have received calls of false rape cases, threats of such case etc for purpose of pressurizing a man into marriage, extortion and so on. There is a false rape/gang-rape news reported almost everyday in the media, a few of which I have already blogged about. I tend to cover those stories where the falsely accused either turned the tables on complainant (and gang), or got acquitted and court gave an order to file case on complainant/police etc. Such news are important so that it can be instructive to others on how to fight back in a false rape case. In this article I attempt to collect information on various false rape stories where the courts have given not just acquittal order but termed the whole case to be malicious, false, motivated etc; and so these can be … [Read more...] about How to safeguard from and punish a false rape complainant
Prosecute police for false rape case under IPC 195: Supreme Court
A recent judgment by Supreme Court to prosecute police for filing false rape case is probably a first, going by the trouble the innocent man was put through both at trial court and high court level in not allowing his application to prosecute the woman sub-inspector. Would the trial/high court of Tamil Nadu have allowed the prosecution if the sub-inspector was a man rather than woman? We don’t know. But SC has taken the right stand. First a bare reading of Section 195 of IPC below Update 05-05-2017: Full judgment at http://bharatlaw.in/doc/AVh96B2-dGcup1PUfxaI Section 195 of IPC Giving or fabricating false evidence with intent to procure conviction of offence punishable with imprisonment for life or imprisonment.—Whoever gives or fabricates false evidence intending thereby to … [Read more...] about Prosecute police for false rape case under IPC 195: Supreme Court
