Subsequent to my previous post on Dr Pachauri of TERI having been slapped with multiple sections of the IPC related to molestation and other crimes, the radical feminists and the humanist feminists have again made fresh demands about his suspension from TERI.

Lawyers, activists demand Pachauri’s resignation from TERI

Previously, they had demanded that his passport should be seized by police.  That ‘demand for justice’ was to ensure a criminal trial, as if Dr Pachauri was going to abscond from India leaving on the next flight to Cayman islands where he has stashed away a few million dollars earned through his climate change and environmental works!

This current demand is to ensure a fair investigation by internal complaints committee in the sexual harassment complaints against Dr Pachauri.  The claim is that since he is head of the organisation, a fair investigation will not be possible.  Hmmm….

No CCTV cameras here, but SMS and email trails

On another site, the details of many SMS/emails between Dr Pachauri and complainant as gleaned from the FIR have been disclosed. On cursory reading of the messages, it seems like a fatuous relation and conversations between a young woman and a much older man who seems to be an authority figure to her.

Well, it took me some gathering of my own self and send you an email as well. My act was a request for God's sake after you have insulted me and made me feel like my role was only to sit down for dinners and breakfast with you. I never iterated any problem with not going to Norway with you as it is all work. You canned it, not me. How am I to react then? I just couldn't believe it. I was all prepared to go. Such discussions have happened in the past too and did not invite such distasteful behaviour. What do you talk abt burdening et al? I have never ever mentioned to you about me having extra work or something, so please don't use such polite verse and put it all on me. This is so unnerving. You are in every position to delegate work and I have never shammed or been non­professional. Using words like 'paid guest' ­ is most humiliating. I have never been haughty ­ it is not in my DNA. So I really don't know what you are talking about. You ideally should know better.

Since I really cannot assign any productive work to you in my office, I am thinking of moving you to your former Division, B and B. However, I will have to discuss that with Dr. Alok Adholeya. I just thought I would let you know.

A cursory reading shows that it is a fatuous kind of relationship between a high authority figure and a much junior employee, and the employee is not very happy with her work arrangements being decided by the authority figure now.  So now we can cry molestation about all the past ‘incidents’ when at those times, those ‘incidents’ may have felt totally different.   As someone has said: “You don’t know a woman until you have met her in court”.

So far, it doesn’t look like as serious a case on Dr Pachauri as compared to something like Tarun Tejpal’s case.  He anyway was a male feminist, so he can cry for justice all he wants now that the wheel has turned full circle.  But my guess is the professional impact for Dr Pachauri will be no different than in Tejpal’s case, basically his career will be over.

As for the feminist brigade, I expect them to bring out more women who have been hiding in closet for all these years and give their statements against Dr Pachauri.  After all, such opportunities to nail an ‘old bastard’ don’t come every day!
