How to find a ‘good’ lawyer

1 Aug 2009 By videv Leave a Comment

We said earlier that why one should not try to find an ‘honest’ lawyer. Here we discuss how to find a ‘good’ lawyer. If it sounds contradictory, just hold your breath and read on.

The point to be seen is that a good lawyer for somone may not be good for you, and vice versa. The point here is not general expertise but how a lawyer is able to handle your case. It is the same for any other professional like doctor too. Once you are comfortable with someone’s approach and have an understanding then stick with them. And fair bit of onus is on you too to make it work.

1. Do your own homework about your case, find strong and weak points of your case, and read about law. Law is based on common sense and principles of justice so go ahead and read up. There is enough information on web and this group.

2. Don’t expect lawyer can make a weak case into strong one. He is not magician. But what he should do is highlight strong points in your case and lessen impact of weak points. If he seems to be doing something else it is a warning sign.

3. Lawyer should not scare or intimidate you. Will you trust a doctor who instead of giving diagnosis and medicine tries to simply scare you about your medical condition? If you are getting scared by lawyer it could also mean you did not do any homework and he is taking full advantage of it.

Note:He above means he/she. We are gender neutral aren’t we 🙂
